Karin, a precocious teenager, finds herself abandoned by her father in rural Japan. While living at a temple with her grandfather, she meets Anzu, a giant “spirit cat” and a notorious slacker who is tasked with taking care of her. Karin distrusts her new teacher and sabotages Anzu’s odd jobs for the townspeople, befriending the eccentric spirits of the local forest. In an attempt to win over Karin, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the devil and all hell breaks loose.
