One of the characters wears a Rolex Daytona Ceramic from the 1990s, but the watch wasn’t released until 2016.. I was so excited to see this film from director Gilles Lellouch, starring Adele Exarchopoulos and Francois Civil, who I really admired. Every ingredient to make a French Bockbuster is there, but they were missing it.
After a while we wonder if we’ve wandered into the wrong screening room
The first part is almost too long to fit the scene of their young lives and love. Also, we start to feel frustrated that we didn’t see Adele and Francois after an hour. If this 1st longer part was meant to be, the film should have been in 2 parts.
I find the screenplay adaptation to be quite weak
Because I think that even though it was too long, it was good. The second part of their adult life is in many ways not convincing and exciting enough. Also, I didn’t feel any connection to this love story of reunion.
As for the ending, it was too easy
It’s a shame because I feel like we missed an opportunity to make a great film here. Bravo to Mallory Wanecque as Jackie and Malik Frikah as the young Clotaire who give great performances.
