The Landman’s job is usually to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.
The difference here is geography
Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, worker housing (man-camp), oversee the assembly of drilling equipment, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. It’s formulaic TV, but from a writer who will be remembered in a few decades as Norman Learre is now.
Accuracy issues with the oil industry?
It’s another niche western show, and it’s brilliant marketing, coupled with great performances from top-notch actors. Apparently. Inadequacy with the mother-daughter-father family dynamic? Yes.
Larter is top-notch and looks phenomenal
Does that mean none of it works the same in real life? No matter, it’s a dynamic production and a joy to watch. Thornton is meant to be in the role, although I read that she was only written for him at the beginning. Lots of interesting stuff, except for the one oddity that Demi Moore is in all 10 episodes.
If not, I’ll be curious to see what the deal is
I’ve seen all 5 so far, and unless it’s just me, I only remember seeing and hearing him once in his pool, for a brief moment. Hamm’s character isn’t seen that much either, but he’s played well and nails his character, but Moore hasn’t been allowed anything to do with it yet. Maybe that’s how it’s written and he’ll play a role in later episodes.
