Scenario
A farming family in Montana faces others encroaching on their land. Forry J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget”; his Montanan accent and reverts to the SoCal speaking voice he usually uses.

(Review is for the first two seasons only) I came into this show not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting and cinematography are great. It’s basically mob wars in Montana with occasional massive doses of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses while fishing)! Costner is the lead actor as Dutton is the lead actor.
The show is at its best when it sees the chessboard moving the Duttons and their enemies
The show gets heavy at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again in the middle. Kelsey Asbill is the weakest link as Monica and plays the bad hand badly, the plot is thrown around awkwardly and the acting just doesn’t hit the mark. In my opinion, Cole Hauser as Rip might be the strongest performance (besides Costner) and I look forward to all the scenes Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also great
The plot hums and the scenery is beautiful. Like Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses; was a little more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show is similar. I highly recommend it and wish I didn’t wait so long to watch it..
